Between utility and ethics
High school students’ perceptions of artificial intelligence

This exploratory, mixed-methods descriptive study analyzes artificial intelligence (AI) utility and ethics among 337 high school students. Using statistics and natural language processing (sentiment analysis), it explores perceptions and concerns. A paradox emerges: high technical literacy versus deficient practical ethics due to omitting AI authorship. Findings show a gap between operative competence and ethical awareness, concluding with the urgent need to implement applied ethics that transcends current curriculum.
